Production buffer, automation, LEAN – call it what you want!
Imagine if your company could optimize the production, eliminate picking errors, reduce space requirements and optimize the supply chain.
We often experience that our customers in the production industry use around 40% of their labor on internal logistics. Manual processes where components are being moved around, re-packed and primed for the next part of the process. It’s not only timid, but also costly and space requiring. The manual processes furthermore equal an increased risk of errors.
Several of the large, German vehicle manufactures has chosen to integrate EffiMat® in their production after successful pilot projects. This have made them capable of eliminating picking errors, saving space, remove work stations and increase their productivity without having to hire more employees.
The robots also provide ideal ergonomic working conditions and reduces the manual processes, which contributes to highly effective employees. The robots have furthermore created a more inspiring working environment for the unskilled employees.
We experience how companies have challenges with their outbound logistics, once the products have been produced. Different products need to be stored, handled, packed and sent out to thousands of different customers, who all have different deliveries.
A lean production is about optimizing the internal logistic and material handling; it’s about reducing waste – waste in processes and in production errors. This does not necessarily mean a fully automated production with robots everywhere; and it does not have to cost a minor fortune either. It’s a matter of making the processes as simple and effective as possible.
The EffiMat® enables a chaos entry and a systematic egress and is suitable for optimizing most supply chains. The EffiMat® is fast, precise, can be integrated with common ERP-systems and can be placed closed to the line of production. The EffiMat® is therefore ideal for both incoming and outcoming logistics, as well as in storage and production coherence.
The EffiMat® is therefore ideal as a production buffer. A long line of processes can be optimized, and waste can be reduced by integrating a production buffer and designing cells where tasks are solved faster and far simpler. The production buffer functions as a sort of intermediate warehouse in the production.
An intermediate warehouse will minimize the time used on transport and the manual processes prior to the actual production. Previously, transport time were maybe spent on gathering parts from racks in the warehouse, but the production buffer will quickly and efficiently present the needed parts. This also means, that it’s not necessary to use an external warehouse and the remaining space in the production is used much more efficiently, because the production buffer exploits the height, which saves valuable square meters.
Is automation too expensive for smaller SME’s?
The answer to optimizing a production is not necessarily to invest in a fully automated production. The smaller production companies often only demand a partly automated production, to reduce the amount of manual processes, save space and gain a more reliable handling of processes. For an investment typically under a million DKK, manual processes can be significantly reduced, and the production noticeably optimized.
